Company assets, in themselves, are often very valuable and monitoring the location of these assets can be important to prevent theft or unauthorized use of the asset. For example, heavy construction equipment is usually very valuable. In addition, this equipment is frequently moved to new locations and used in construction activities. This equipment is either owned by a specific construction company or leased from a leasing company. In either case, the owner of the equipment generally wishes to be aware of the location of that equipment, and also to be notified if the equipment is moved away from a location.
“The owner of the equipment may wish to have such knowledge in the event of unauthorized use of the asset or theft of the asset. For example, if the owner of the equipment has rented the equipment for use at a certain site, moving the equipment away from that site may indicate that a thief is attempting to steal the equipment. Having the location of the material can thus make it possible to recover any stolen material, or to stop a theft in progress. This capability helps reduce the cost of insurance for the business. There are many other examples where it may be desirable to track the location of assets for insurers.

According to an objective of the illustrated embodiments, in one aspect, a method and a computer implemented system for tracking insured assets is disclosed, wherein one or more asset identifiers corresponding to one or more assets to be monitored are provided, each of the one or more assets are attached to a tracking device. The asset or assets are preferably covered by one or more insurance policies. Notification is received from a variety of sources that at least one asset has moved from a predetermined location (e.g. housing, insured property, etc.). An insurance policy is then identified that is associated with at least one asset. A policyholder associated with the insurance policy is then notified by preferably sending a notification to a policyholder containing instructions for corrective actions by the policyholder regarding the at least one asset so that ‘one or more corrective actions based on the instructions received from the policyholder can be initiated.
“In accordance with another aspect, a computer-implemented method for tracking insured assets is provided. One or more asset identifiers corresponding to one or more assets to be monitored are received. Each of the one or more assets is attached to a tracking device. Monitored assets are covered by one or more insurance policies. One or more geofence regions are defined associated with the monitored asset (s). A location of each of the monitored assets is estimated, at least periodically. In response to determining that the estimated location of at least one of the monitored assets is outside the corresponding geographic fence region (s), an insurance policy associated with the at least one asset is determined. A policyholder associated with the insurance policy is notified by sending a notification to the policyholder’s preferred device. The notification asks the policyholder for instructions for corrective actions. One or more corrective actions are initiated on the basis of the instructions received from the policyholder.

“1. Electronic asset tracking device wirelessly coupled to an asset tracking server to detect the loss of an asset and enable corrective actions on a remote user cellular device regarding the loss of the asset, comprising: a location sensor co-located with the asset for determining the location of the asset in which the asset is assigned an identifier associated with an insurance policy covering the asset; a controller for determining a fence geographic location for the asset and determine when the asset has moved outside the geographic fence so that a wireless signal is sent to an asset tracking server, where the asset tracking server is configured to: determine an insurance policy for the asset contingent on the ID of the asset determined to have moved outside the geofence; determine a probability of recovery for the asset based on at least in part of the following elements s: request a single graphical user interface to be generated on the remote user’s cellular device indicating: 1) identification of the asset determined to have moved outside the geofence; 2) identification of the location from which the asset was moved; 3) a first user selectable icon for allowing the user to interact with the graphical user interface of the cellular device to initiate an insurance claim for the identified stolen asset; and 4) a second user selectable icon to enable user notification to a law enforcement agency regarding each determined asset stolen, the second user selectable icon being distinct from the first user selectable icon. user on the graphical interface of the user’s cellular device.
The electronic asset tracking device of claim 1, wherein the asset tracking server is further configured to provide real-time notification to the user cellular device regarding a status update regarding recovery. of the asset determined to have moved outside the geographic barrier.
The asset tracking device of claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to determine that the asset is located at a location based, at least in part, on the passage of a period of time during which time the asset is located. in which the speed of movement of the asset has remained equal to or less than a predefined threshold.
The asset tracking device of claim 3, wherein the geographic fence is established based on the movement of the asset relative to the location during the period of time.
The asset tracking device of claim 1, further comprising: an RF transceiver; a detection unit; a GPS receiver; A memory; and a processor coupled to each of the RF transceiver, detection unit, GPS receiver, and memory having instructions for enabling wireless communication with the asset tracking server.
The asset tracking device of claim 1, wherein the asset tracking server is further configured for an insurance claim for the asset based on instructions entered by an insured through the. graphical interface generated on the user’s cellular device.
Seven. An asset tracking device according to claim 6, wherein the insurance policy comprises one of the following: home insurance policy, automobile insurance policy, tenant insurance policy, insurance policy commercial insurance, valuable personal property insurance policy and umbrella insurance policy.
