Non-Prosecutable Sex Worker Client: Ap Hc | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: The High Court in a recent judgment ruled that a client of sex workers is not liable to prosecution. The petitioner argued that the law is settled earlier in such cases where the PA high court as well as the Karnataka high court have issued judgments mentioning the same.
A Ch. Raj Kumar has moved to the high court to challenge the charges against him before the Special Mobile Judicial Magistrate First Class, Guntur. He was made one of the defendants in the case registered by Nagarampalam police after raiding a brothel in 2020. Raj Kumar was detained by police as a client and charges were brought against him.
Arguing on behalf of the petitioner, Habibulla Shaik told the court that there have been judgments in similar cases where the law has established that the client who visits the brothel by paying money cannot be prosecuted. He said that continuing to prosecute the petitioner would be illegal and an abuse of the legal process.
The Alternate Government Attorney, while opposing the motion, argued that the petitioner is only a client and that said matter was the subject of a prior joint order.
Considering the arguments, Judge D Ramesh allowed the motion given the prior priority established by the PA and Karnataka high courts, allowed the criminal motion and quashed the proceedings against the petitioner.
