The 17-year-old son of a man killed at a Des Moines bar and grill in December 2021, is suing the establishment and the bartender. A lawsuit filed earlier this month says Andrew Lee Hall Sr., 46, of Des Moines and his son went to the Maingate Bar and Grill, 2956 E Grand Ave., on Dec. 2. Hall was fatally shot by 17-year-old Drake Armstrong during an altercation outside the facility. In the lawsuit, Hall’s son claims he was less than 5 feet away when his father was shot. It is also said that bartender Jessica Olson knew Armstrong was underage and served him alcohol anyway. And after the shooting, Olson chased Armstrong off the stage. The son wants Maingate and Olson to be held responsible for the murder. Olson already faces a criminal accessory charge in connection with Hall’s murder. His trial begins on August 29.
