A tweet from the Income Tax Department said the portal had not been available since Saturday.

After about two days of downtime for the income tax portal, Infosys said Sunday evening that emergency maintenance for the website was over and it was now live.

Developed by Infosys, the new electronic income tax declaration portal “www. Incometax.gov.in ”has had a rough start since its launch day on June 7, as it continued to experience technical issues with users complaining that certain features were either unavailable or running slowly.

A tweet from the Income Tax Department said the portal had not been available since Saturday.

Infosys India Business, which is the Twitter account for the business unit of Infosys India, said in a tweet on Sunday evening: “The emergency maintenance of the @IncomeTaxIndia portal has been completed and the portal is live. We regret any inconvenience caused to taxpayers.

Earlier today, he tweeted that the portal was under “emergency maintenance”.

The finance ministry “summoned” Infosys chief executive and CEO Salil Parekh on Monday to explain to finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman the reasons for the lingering problems even after more than two months of launch.

As users complained about various issues after a fortnight of launch, Sitharaman called a meeting on June 22 with senior officials at Infosys to review the issues on the portal.

The minister then asked Infosys to deal with all issues without further waste of time, improve their services and resolve grievances as a priority, as this had a negative impact on taxpayers.

At that time, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh and COO Pravin Rao, along with other company officials, took note of the issues highlighted by stakeholders.

They had also acknowledged the technical issues in the operation of the portal and shared the status of the resolution regarding issues highlighted by stakeholders, according to an official statement released after the meeting.

In 2019, Infosys won a contract to develop the next-generation tax filing system to reduce filing processing time from 63 days to one day and speed up refunds.

Until June 2021, the government paid Rs 164.5 crore to Infosys for the development of the portal.
